Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in sustainable energy infrastructure, focusing on digital transformation and smart grid technologies.

The signing took place during the Việt Nam–China Business Forum in Tianjin, China, witnessed by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and high-ranking officials from both countries.

Under the MoU, the two sides will explore opportunities in digitalisation and smart technologies for the power sector, including renewable energy solutions and intelligent grid management systems. The partnership aims to support Việt Nam’s energy transition goals while enhancing operational efficiency and grid stability.

The document was signed by EVN General Director Nguyễn Anh Tuấn and CEO of Huawei's Digital Power Business Sun Fuyou. It marks a key step in fostering strategic cooperation between the two corporations at a time when Việt Nam is accelerating its efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 — a commitment announced by PM Chính at the COP26 climate summit.

The electricity sector plays a crucial role in this transition, being both a major energy supplier and one of the key pillars for decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements. As the country pursues its green development agenda, digital transformation is expected to drive innovation and resilience in national power infrastructure.

EVN, as the leading utility responsible for ensuring national energy security, is actively adopting new technologies to align with global electrification and digitalisation trends. Meanwhile, Huawei brings extensive technological expertise and a long-term vision for smart and sustainable energy ecosystems.

The co-operation is expected to lay the groundwork for a modern power infrastructure model in Việt Nam, where digital technologies and renewable energy are integrated to enhance performance and reduce environmental impact over the long term.
