Shares fall after yesterday's rally

Shares failed to retain yesterday's gains this January 10 morning as they finished the session in the red.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index lost 0.12 per cent to close at 448.24 points with only 25 per cent of listed stocks struggling into the green.

The value of trades reached VND903.7 billion (US$43 million) on a volume of 48.5 million shares.

The VN30, tracking the southern bourse's 30 leading shares, bucked the trend to add 0.09 per cent to 531.98 points, although losers outnumbered gainers by 16-9.

On the H Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index retreated 0.55 per cent, hitting 59.28 points as decliners overwhelmed advancers by 126-41.

Trading was sluggish, with the total share value and volume reaching VND268.25 billion ($12.7 million) and 39.36 million units respectively.

The HNX30, which represents the performance of 30 largest stocks in terms of capitalisation and liquidity, also dropped 0.27 per cent to close at 113.85 points.

Trading will resume at 1 pm.
