Indices rise, but losers outnumber gainers

Gains in blue chips continued to support the VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange this January 8 morning, although decliners outnumbered advancers by 120-91.

Many of the top 30 shares hit their ceiling prices, boosting the VN-Index by another 1.76 per cent to a close of 441.83 points, while the VN30 was also up 2.03 per cent to 519.5 points.

The biggest gainers were insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Tan Tao Industry Investment (ITA), food processor Masan Group (MSN), PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) and Ocean Group (OGC).

Military Bank (MBB) is currently the most active code on trades of nearly 4.1 million shares, rising 3.05 per cent to VND13,500 a share.

The trading volume totalled nearly 58 million shares worth VND993.6 billion ($47.5 million) by the end of this morning.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also increased 0.47 per cent to 59.28 points although losers doubled gainers.

Almost 57 million shares, worth VND384 billion ($18.4 million), changed hands on the bourse.

Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB) was again the most heavily-traded stock with 11.4 million shares exchanged, closing flat at VND6,500 a share.
