Stock indices rise despite losers outnumber gainers

Stocks fluctuated on both exchanges this December 25 morning but managed to close on a positive note despite losers outnumbering gainers.

The VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange rose another 0.34 per cent to close at 401.07 points, with the trading value reaching more than VND363.8 billion (US$17.3 million).

Blue chips gained ground this morning as the VN30, tracking the top 30 shares on the bourse, increased 0.41 per cent to 468.92 points.

Three of the top 30 were also the most heavily-traded stocks this morning.

Kinh Bac City Development (KBC) led the group with over 2.8 million shares changing hands, rising 3.85 per cent to VND5,400 a share.

Vietinbank (CTG) followed with over 2.2 million shares traded, climbing 3.7 per cent to VND19,600 each.

Saigon Securities Inc (SSI) ranked third with more than 1 million shares exchanged, closing flat at VND15,800 a share.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, despite decliners nearly doubling advancers, the HNX-Index still rose 0.16 per cent to stand at 55.09 points on a turnover of more than VND262 billion ($12.5 million).
