Shares end lower on both exchanges

Shares lost value during this December 18 morning's session after a two-day rally.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index closed at 393.43 points, down 0.05 per cent compared to yesterday.

Trading almost halved from yesterday morning's level to reach VND352.9 billion (US$16.8 million) as 31.4 million shares changed hands.

The VN30, representing the performance of HCM City's 30 leading shares, also dropped 0.24 per cent to reach 461.13 points.

Among these blue chips, advancers outnumbered decliners by 16-8.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index fell 0.7 per cent, standing at just 54.09 points.

Losers overwhelmed losers by 110-42.

Trading was sluggish, with nearly 30.8 million shares worth a total of VND190.2 billion ($9 million) exchanged.

The HNX30, which tracks the northern bourse's top shares, retreated 0.93 per cent to 100.70 points.

Trading will resume at 1 pm.
