Bank shares fuel market growth

Shares rose steadily on both exchanges this December13 morning boosted by a strong showing from bank shares, nearly all of which made gains.

Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) on the Ha Noi bourse was the biggest mover, climbing 4.4 per cent, followed by Eximbank (EIB) on the HCM City exchange up 2.8 per cent; Sacombank (STB), up 2.2 per cent. Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB), Military Bank (MBB) and Vietinbank (CTG) also rose from 1-2 per cent.

SHB was the most active stock in the Ha Noi market with 3.94 million shares changing hands, while EIB and MBB were also among the action on the HCM City exchange with each code seeing over 1 million shares traded.

Overall, the VN-Index in the HCM City market gained another 0.62 per cent to close this morning's session at 393.63 points, with an improved trading value of VND500.7 billion (US$24 million).

The VN30 tracking the top 30 shares on the bourse was also up 0.84 per cent to 461.611 points.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index grew a modest 0.33 per cent to close at 54.26 points on a turnover of VND168 billion ($8 million).

Trading will resume at 1pm.
