Stocks improve slightly on both exchanges

Gainers outnumbered losers this November 20 morning, lifting stock indices of both national exchanges.

The VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange rose 0.28 per cent to close at 384.38 points by the end of the morning.

Trading was still sluggish with just 14.3 million shares, worth VND178.7 billion (US$8.55 million), changing hands.

Gainers edged up losers by 121-52.

Most of blue chips improved slightly this morning, driving the VN30 up 0.39 per cent to stand at 454.11 points.

Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corp (REE) was the biggest gainers following the information yesterday that the corporation would issue VND558 billion ($26.7 million) worth of convertible bonds to Platinum Victory Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Singapore's giant auto distributor and retailer Jardine Cycle and Carriage Limited at the conversion price of VND22,000 a share ($1.05).

REE jumped 4.2 per cent this morning to VND15,000 ($0.72) a share.

However, property developer Tan Tao Investment Industry (ITA) was the most active share with more than 2 million shares exchanged at VND4,000 a share.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also closed up 0.21 per cent at 51.56 points, but trading value was still dry, reaching just VND65.6 billion ($3.13 million).

Sai Gon-Ha Noi Bank (SHB), with 2.7 million shares traded, became the most active code on the northern bourse. SHB closed flat at VND5,000 a share.
