Shares recover slightly on poor trading

Stocks recovered slightly this October23 morning on the HCM City Stock Exchange, but trading continued to decline.

The VN-Index rose 0.22 per cent to 397.87 points on a turnover of VND350 billion (US$16.7 million), down 28 per cent from yesterday morning's level.

Blue chips increased slightly, tracked by the modest increase of 0.08 per cent of the VN30 to 469.76 points.

Insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Vietinbank (CTG), Vietcombank (VCB), steelmaker Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) jumped from 0.6-3 per cent. However, dairy giant Vinamilk (VNM), property developer VinGroup (VIC) and Sacombank (STB) fell 0.5-0.7 per cent.

Tan Tao Investment Industry (ITA) continued to be the most active this morning with more than 2.9 million shares traded at VND4,400 a share.

Meanwhile, on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index continued to shed value, losing another 0.2 per cent to a close on 54.24 points.

Trading value almost halved from yesterday morning, reaching just VND61.3 billion ($2.9 million) on a volume of just 9.7 million shares.

PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) was again the most active code on the northern bourse but the trading volume was half of yesterday with just 1.15 million shares changing hands.

The shares rose 2.3 per cent to stand at VND4,500 a share.

Trading will resume at 1pm.
