Blue chips boost shares on both exchanges

The VN-Index made a slight improvement this October 18 morning, rising 0.49 per cent to 398.98 points, on the back of blue chip company gains.

Many shares included in the VN30, which tracks performance of the top 30 shares on the bourses, finished the morning session in the green.

Tan Tao Investment Industry (ITA) and Kinh Bac City Development (KBC) rose to the ceiling, while dairy giant Vinamilk (VNM), insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Vietinbank (CTG) and steelmaker Hoa Phat Group (HPG) made jumps of between 1.3-2.4 per cent.

ITA was also the most active stock this morning, with more than 6 million shares changing hands at the trading price of VND4,900 a share.

Overall, the VN30 was up 0.46 per cent to 471.53 points, while the the HNX-Index also crept up 0.18 per cent to 56.03 points.

More than 20.4 million shares worth VND139.7 billion ($6.7 million), changed hands on the Ha Noi stock exchange this morning, with PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) the most active after 3.6 million share trades.

PVX climbed 4.2 per cent to VND5,000 a share.

Trading was sluggish on the HCM City Stock Exchange however, with only 24.2 million shares worth VND284.5 billion ($13.5 million) being dealt.

Trading will resume at 1pm.
