Global payment leader Visa has announced partnerships with Sun Group and Vietnam Airlines to support growth in tourism, travel and digital commerce.

The memoranda of understanding (MoU), signed during a week of US-Việt Nam engagements in New York, reaffirm Visa’s long-term commitment to Việt Nam through continued investment in technology, digital infrastructure and strategic partnerships.

Under its proposed partnership with Sun Group, Visa will support digital tourism initiatives through its expertise in payments, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and customer engagement.

The agreement builds on existing co-operation on Visit Vietnam, part of the national digital tourism ecosystem developed and operated by Sun Group with Government support and in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Data Association.

Visa also plans to expand its strategic partnership with Vietnam Airlines, building on co-operation established in 2023 in digital payments and travel ecosystem development, as well as commercial payments, loyalty programmes and co-branded card solutions.

The two organisations will explore ways to provide more seamless and secure experiences for domestic and international travellers, while strengthening Việt Nam’s links with regional and global markets.

Visa also took part in discussions on trade, investment, innovation and digital transformation between Việt Nam and the US during the week.

For more than three decades, Visa has worked with Government agencies, financial institutions and businesses to expand digital commerce, strengthen payment ecosystems and connect Việt Nam with opportunities at home and abroad.

“Việt Nam has achieved remarkable progress over the past three decades, driven by continued investment, innovation and international collaboration. As Việt Nam advances its ambitions to build a leading digital economy and strengthen its position as a destination for tourism, travel and investment, we will continue investing in the partnerships, technologies and capabilities that help businesses grow, enhance travel experiences and expand participation in the digital economy,” said Dung Đặng, country manager for Visa in Việt Nam and Laos.

The partnerships are expected to support the application of AI and other technologies as Việt Nam promotes science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation under Resolution No. 57.

Visa said its work in Việt Nam supports national priorities in digital transformation, financial inclusion and secure digital commerce. Through partnerships across the public and private sectors, the company brings expertise in payments, cybersecurity, fraud prevention, data analytics, AI and digital identity to help strengthen the country’s digital ecosystem.
