Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its partners, FTechX Corporation and X-Brain, have proposed building the city’s first agentic AI factory with an investment of US$100 million.

A source from the local government confirmed that the proposal was made during a recent visit by AWS and its partners to the city’s leadership.

The factory is expected to be a milestone, transforming Đà Nẵng into a new digital trade hub and innovation centre and driving the development of cloud computing services, AI applications, cybersecurity and digital transformation.

AWS and Renova Cloud hosted a conference titled ‘Frontier AI & Local Zones Innovation’ in Đà Nẵng on July 17.

Country General Manager of AWS Vietnam Eric Yeo said that Đà Nẵng has built a dynamic innovation ecosystem and become a magnet for skilled workers. He also commended local authorities for their clear vision for digital transformation, alongside the readiness and ambition for breakthrough growth in AI and cloud computing demonstrated by the local business community.

He added that the newly established AWS Local Zones in Hà Nội will support the business community in Đà Nẵng by providing critical infrastructure for AI applications in Việt Nam. This includes databases that meet high cybersecurity standards and offer low latency to satisfy the most rigorous requirements.

Vice Chairman of the Đà Nẵng People’s Committee Hồ Quang Bửu said that the city has already trained a workforce of 53,000 engineers for digital industries, adding that all public services are now available online.

The central city aims for the digital economy to account for a 27 per cent share of its Gross Regional Domestic Product.

AWS and its partners also proposed assisting city authorities in building the Đà Nẵng Digital Trade Hub, training AI workers and developing a Cloud Open Centre and an R&D centre at the Đà Nẵng Hi-Tech Park.

Approximately 10,000 engineers are expected to receive internationally certified training in AI and cloud computing through 2028.

To date, Đà Nẵng has attracted more than 1,000 projects with a total investment of $4.35 billion, of which $3.55 billion was contributed by its six industrial parks, the Hi-Tech Park and the IT Park.
