Cà Mau Province's exports exceeded US$1 billion in the first five months of 2026, driven by strong growth in seafood and fertiliser shipments.

They were up 14.4 per cent year-on-year and equivalent to 38.2 per cent of the full-year target, according to the provincial People's Committee.

Seafood remained the largest contributor, accounting for nearly $901 million and up 7.5 per cent from a year earlier.

Fertiliser exports surged 93 per cent to $142.7 million, the highest increase.

Most sectors posted solid growth during the period, with aquatic production rising 7.1 per cent to 494,500 tonnes, rice output holding steady at 1.16 million tonnes and industrial production increasing 9.4 per cent.

Electricity generation, however, declined 3.6 per cent to 3.31 billion kWh due to supply disruptions caused by tensions in the Middle East.

Consumer demand remained strong, with retail sales of goods and services rising by 18.7 per cent to VNĐ66.4 trillion (US$2.5 billion).

The chairman of the province People’s Committee, Lữ Quang Ngời, has instructed agencies at all levels to speed up key projects and public spending and mitigate obstacles faced by production activities.

The province is working to diversify export markets and products, expand trade promotion, and derive greater advantage from free trade agreements.

It is working towards achieving exports of $2.8 billion and double-digit economic growth this year.
