The People's Committee of Quảng Ninh Province has approved an investment policy and investor selection for a concentrated aquaculture project in the Cô Tô Special Zone.

The project is designed to produce approximately 839 tonnes of seafood annually.

It will cover nearly 209.8 hectares of sea area in Cô Tô and will feature a floating cage farming system. Facilities will include an operation centre and dedicated farming zones for snails, clams, squid, seaweed, sea cucumbers, marine fish and fish nurseries.

The provincial authority has approved Mực Nhảy Biển Đông JSC as the project's investor.

The project has a total investment of nearly VNĐ67 billion (US$2.5 million) and is expected to begin operations next year.

Authorities expect the project to help connect businesses with local residents to establish an integrated production chain capable of supplying high-quality, high-yield seafood products to the market. It is also expected to improve the efficiency of marine resource utilisation and create jobs for local communities.

In addition, the project is planned to incorporate sightseeing and experiential tourism activities, although no accommodation facilities will be developed on site.
