Saigon Co.op marks Co.opmart’s 30th anniversary with green push and promotions

The Saigon Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) has kicked off Co.opmart’s 30th anniversary month with a series of commemorative activities and its largest promotion of the year across more than 800 outlets nationwide.

Held under the theme ‘30 years of a trusted Vietnamese brand for every household,’ the event not only celebrates a major milestone for a retail system closely associated with millions of households, but also promotes Vietnamese goods and marks a new phase focused on green retail and sustainable consumption.

Speaking at the event, Nguyễn Ngọc Thắng, Saigon Co.op’s deputy general director, over the past three decades, Co.opmart has become a familiar destination for Vietnamese families, offering quality products with clear origins at stable prices. Even during periods of market volatility caused by natural disasters, supply disruptions or rising costs, the supermarket system has maintained its role in stabilising prices and ensuring essential goods supply.

He noted that customer trust has been the driving force behind Co.opmart’s development.

“Turning 30 marks a time for strong transformation – becoming more modern and greener, delivering sustainable value to the community while continuing to elevate Vietnamese goods,” he said.

As part of the celebration, Saigon Co.op launched the “30 Years – Green Commitment” campaign across its system, aiming to reduce single-use plastic bags and encourage environmentally friendly consumption habits.

The campaign includes the introduction of limited-edition eco-friendly bags presented to customers, alongside the rollout of self-packing areas using cardboard boxes and alternative materials to reduce plastic use.

From April 23 to May 13, 2026, member customers using eco-friendly bags on Thursdays will receive a VNĐ5,000 bonus, equivalent to 25 reward points. Each green purchase will also contribute to a community initiative providing clean water to areas affected by salinity and water shortages.

Meanwhile, more than 800 outlets across Saigon Co.op’s retail network, including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, FineLife, Cheers, Co.op Smile, Sense shopping centres and the Co.op Online platform, are rolling out promotions on over 10,000 essential items, with discounts of up to 50 per cent.

With more than 130 supermarkets nationwide, Co.opmart has evolved beyond a traditional retail system to become a key player in market stabilisation while helping shape responsible consumption trends.

Looking ahead, Saigon Co.op aims to strengthen its position as a modern cooperative model, placing consumers at the centre and sustainable development at the heart of its strategy.
