Việt Nam is emerging as a strategic market for Siemens Mobility, which plans to deepen cooperation with local authorities and operators to introduce advanced signalling solutions, along with tailored financing and service models that meet local needs.

“Siemens Mobility is committed to capacity building through technology transfer and training initiatives,” said Michel Obadia, CEO of Siemens Mobility Asia-Pacific and Singapore.

The company recently conducted the world’s first live demonstration of a metro system using its Signaling X technology at the Singapore Rail Test Centre (SRTC), marking a major milestone towards cloud-based train control for urban networks.

Developed on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and Siemens Mobility’s Distributed Smart Safe System (DS3) platform, Signaling X enables more trains to operate safely at closer intervals.

“Operators can achieve up to 20 per cent higher operational efficiency thanks to reduced hardware requirements, simplified maintenance processes, and optimised energy use,” Obadia told Việt Nam News.

According to Obadia, the technology is well aligned with Việt Nam’s modernisation goals, as its centralised and software-driven architecture supports rapid network expansion and scalability in fast-growing urban areas.

In addition, Signaling X offers cost-efficiency by enabling up to 15 per cent savings in capital investment and reducing maintenance expenses. Combined with up to 20 per cent improvements in operational efficiency, the system helps lower lifecycle costs while maintaining the highest safety standards.

He said early adoption of Signaling X would allow Việt Nam to bypass legacy systems and emerge as a leader in smart, sustainable urban mobility, in line with global digitalisation and resilience trends.
