In September alone, total retail sales of consumer goods and services were estimated at VNĐ598.7 trillion, up 2 per cent from August and 11.3 per cent higher than the same month last year.

Of the total in the first nine months, retail sales of goods were estimated at VNĐ3.94 quadrillion, up 8.3 per cent year-on-year. A number of items recorded strong growth in the period, with food and foodstuffs up 10.3 per cent, garments up 8.2 per cent, cultural and educational products up 8.1 per cent, and household appliances and tools up 6.7 per cent.

Revenue from tourism and travel services also surged by 20.5 per cent to VNĐ69.6 trillion.

According to the GSO, the bright spot in the country’s consumption picture was the strong performance of tourism and related services.

Explaining this growth momentum, the GSO said that since the beginning of this year, many localities have actively implemented tourism stimulus programmes and developed new tourism products, attracting both domestic and foreign tourists. Notably, HCM City recorded an increase of 24.3 per cent, Hà Nội 21.9 per cent, and Quảng Ninh 20.2 per cent, leading the country in tourism revenue.
