Việt Nam marked a key milestone in its clean energy ambitions with the inauguration of the Green Hydrogen Hub at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU), a platform aimed at advancing research, training and industrial cooperation in renewable hydrogen technologies.

The ceremony brought together Nguyễn Văn Phúc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Christopher Scholl, Deputy Consul General of Germany in HCM City, Michaela Baur, Country Director of GIZ Việt Nam, and more than 100 representatives from government agencies, development organisations, universities and businesses from both Việt Nam and Germany.

Michaela Baur said the Hub would serve as a physical centre of collaboration and innovation, where knowledge and partnerships converge to drive change. VGU Vice President Thomas Aulig said the Hub would connect academia, industry and policymakers to promote education, research and innovation in renewable energy and hydrogen technologies.

Henri Wasnick, Director of the GIZ H2Uppp project, said momentum for hydrogen development in Việt Nam is already growing, with increasing participation from both domestic and international enterprises across the value chain. Their involvement, he added, demonstrates a shared commitment to supporting Việt Nam’s clean energy transition.

During the opening, consortium partners of the Green Hydrogen Hub jointly activated the launch button and cut the ribbon to mark the official inauguration of the facility at the VGU campus. The Hub will provide a space for business collaboration, knowledge exchange and technology demonstration, while offering training programmes for students, professionals and policymakers to strengthen workforce capacity in the emerging hydrogen sector.

The ceremony also featured the signing of three cooperation agreements between Vietnamese and German enterprises, including partnerships on renewable-powered electrolysers, financing mechanisms for green hydrogen projects and the development of zero-carbon industrial parks in central Việt Nam. An exhibition of hydrogen technologies and a panel discussion on Việt Nam–Germany cooperation in hydrogen development, workforce training and research–industry linkages were also held on the sidelines.

The Green Hydrogen Hub Việt Nam is part of the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme (H2Uppp), implemented by the GIZ Energy Support Programme and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Located at the Vietnamese-German University, it is coordinated by GIZ, the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Việt Nam (AHK Vietnam), and VGU, in partnership with leading Vietnamese and German enterprises.

The Hub is expected to become a central platform for cooperation, policy dialogue and innovation, contributing to the development of Việt Nam’s green hydrogen market and a sustainable energy future.
