Việt Nam is pushing for a cleaner, greener future as the Ministry of Industry and Trade on Tuesday announced the environment industry development programme for 2025–30, aimed at promoting innovation, digital transformation and sustainable growth.

The programme, approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No 1894/QĐ-TTg, seeks to establish the environment industry as an independent, modern and strategic sector to contribute to green growth and sustainable development.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Trương Thanh Hoài said Việt Nam is facing mounting environmental challenges, including severe water, solid waste, liquid waste and air pollution.

“The industry will be vital to protecting the environment as Việt Nam restructures its industrial base and accelerates modernisation,” he said.

He added that the introduction of the programme reaffirms the Government’s strong commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 as the country enters a new phase of development where circular economy and green growth are no longer slogans but mandatory criteria for international integration.

Deputy Director of the Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment Agency Đỗ Phương Dung said the programme seeks to strengthen policy frameworks, enhance domestic capacity and build a robust environmental technology ecosystem.

By 2030, Việt Nam aims to achieve self-sufficiency in technology, equipment and products for environmental protection, with domestic production meeting 70–80 per cent of wastewater treatment and 60–70 per cent of air pollution control.

To achieve these goals, the ministry will focus on completing legal frameworks, developing markets and enterprises, advancing innovation and digitalisation, strengthening human resource training and improving data transparency for the environment industry.

The programme emphasises the important role of private sector leadership and domestic resources. Accordingly, the ministry will promote the development of large-scale environmental enterprises and the foundation of a national environmental industry centre.
