Saigon Co.op enters education sector with vocational training programmes

Saigon Co.op, Việt Nam’s leading consumer goods retailer, has launched vocational training programmes for supermarket cashiers and sales staff, marking its entry into education.

HCM CITY — The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op), Việt Nam’s leading consumer goods retailer, has launched vocational training programmes for supermarket cashiers and sales staff, marking its entry into education.

The training programmes are designed entirely by Saigon Co.op, leveraging its decades of operational expertise, and certified by the HCM City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (now the Department of Education and Training).

The programmes include 80 per cent hands-on practice, equipping students with the skills needed to start working immediately after graduation.

Upon completion, graduates will receive a basic-level vocational certificate.

The programme integrates real-world practice with classroom instruction.

There will be theoretical sessions at Saigon Co.op’s professional training centre in Bến Thành Ward, HCM City, and practical training at Co.opmart supermarkets.

This year, Saigon Co.op will enrol 50 students in each of the two programmes. 

Applications opened on July 8, and the first three-month course is set to begin in September.

The best students will get priority in hiring from Saigon Co.op’s retail networks.

The programme is targeted at secondary school graduates, unskilled workers, discharged soldiers and individuals seeking practical skills for stable employment or a career change.

In this inaugural year, Saigon Co.op is charging tuition fees of only VNĐ3 million (US$114) for each course.

Besides, it offers discounts of 10-100 per cent for various beneficiary groups like Saigon Co.op staff, people with meritorious service, discharged soldiers, relatives of employees and group registration.
