Two of Việt Nam’s leading petroleum distributors – PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) and Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) – will begin piloting the sale of E10 RON95 biofuel from August 1, 2025 in selected petrol stations across Hà Nội, Hải Phòng and HCM City.

Both companies are actively aligning with the Government’s roadmap to promote the use of biofuels as part of Việt Nam’s clean energy transition.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is currently gathering feedback to finalise an official timeline for E10 implementation, scheduled to begin on January 1 next year.

As early movers in the biofuel sector, PVOIL and Petrolimex have been investing heavily in infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to blending systems, storage tanks and logistics networks. Their nationwide coverage, with hundreds of retail stations, positions them well to ensure a smooth transition and wide access to E10 fuel.

PVOIL, with over a decade of experience in E5 blending, is enhancing its technical capabilities and expanding its network to serve not only its own customers but also support other fuel distributors.

The company is also working with Petrovietnam’s Dung Quất and Nghi Sơn refineries to secure traditional fuel and ethanol (E100) supplies, while keeping costs low and meeting market demand.

Chairman Cao Hoài Dương said the early pilot will help familiarise consumers with the new fuel and avoid disruptions once the switch becomes mandatory.

Similarly, Petrolimex is upgrading key depots and preparing its distribution network to ensure quality control, stable ethanol supply and smooth logistics.

PVOIL will pilot the sale of E10 RON95 biofuel at selected petrol stations in Hà Nội and Hải Phòng, while Petrolimex will conduct its trial at stations in pre-merger areas of Hồ Chí Minh City.

Both corporations are also training technical staff and launching communication campaigns to raise public awareness and build consumer confidence in E10 fuel.

Under national technical regulation QCVN 01:2022/BKHCN, E10 is a finished gasoline product blended with 9–10 per cent bioethanol by volume. In addition to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, E10 offers environmental advantages and improved engine performance.

Studies confirm that E10 is compatible with most gasoline engines, including older models.
