GEO Group to establish a clean energy workforce centre in Binh Dinh

Binh Dinh People’s Committee signed an MoU with Germany's GEO Group and O-Door Vietnam Co., Ltd. on June 18 to establish a renewable energy worker training and development centre.

GEO Group to establish a clean energy workforce centre in Binh Dinh

According to the MoU, GEO Group, Germany's leading renewable energy solution company, will collaborate with O-Door Vietnam to establish a legal entity in Vietnam. The goal is to develop the renewable energy human resource training and development centre in Phu My district, Binh Dinh province, with an estimated investment capital totalling $50 million across an area of 20 hectares.

The international centre is expected to supply thousands of Global Wind Organisation certified technicians each year across the fields of wind power, solar power, and green hydrogen.

The training course will be transferred while quality is assessed by prestigious certification organisations such as DNV and TÜV. After training, students will be eligible to work for major domestic and international energy companies or master green engineering models locally.

At the Binh Dinh-based centre, GEO Group plans to build two wind power plants, one using the group's technology and the other using a third party's technology for students to learn.

Franz Josef Claes, managing director of GEO Group, said, "We have confidence in the potential of renewable energy development in Vietnam, especially in Binh Dinh. GEO Group is running 22 training facilities across 12 countries globally. However, there is no place where we have designed and planned a modern system like in Binh Dinh."

"The centre is expected to train high-quality workers for Vietnam and become a reliable source for the Southeast Asia region. GEO is committed to bringing the most modern technology towards a circular, advanced, and renewable industry," added Claes.

Echoing that sentiment, Mai Ngoc Thuy, CEO of O-Door Vietnam, said, "We put sustainable development as a guiding principle, linking business development with the national goal of clean energy. The centre will be the first step to shape a green living community while generating more high-quality job opportunities for Vietnamese youth."

Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of Binh Dinh People's Committee, pledged to facilitate implementation and grant an investment licence for the venture by the end of July.

"The province has also earmarked clean land for the venture. Therefore, the company can kick-start the initiative once receiving the investment licence," said Tuan.
