BAF Vietnam Agriculture Joint Stock Company has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to construct two six-storey pig farming complexes in the southern provinces of Tây Ninh and Bình Phước, according to the firm's Deputy General Director Nguyễn Văn Minh.

The first project will be located in Tây Ninh's Tân Châu District and is expected to house 64,000 breeding sows, producing 1.6 million pigs annually. Meanwhile, the second project in Bình Phước's Đồng Phú District will be home to 20,000 sows and likely produce 500,000 pigs a year.

Under these two projects, pigs will be raised based on a multi-storey model by Muyuan Group, the largest pig breeding company in China.

Minh said that Việt Nam does not currently have specific regulations on livestock density under this type of model.

Although there are national standards for multi-storey livestock farming models, specific legal criteria on construction licensing and environmental impact assessments are still unclear, causing difficulties in completing the licensing application.

Phạm Kim Đăng, deputy director of the Department of Livestock Production and Veterinary Medicine, said that current Vietnamese law has no regulations prohibiting the raising of livestock and poultry in multi-storey buildings.

The high-tech pig farming model is in line with the State's policy on promoting research, application and transfer of science and technology, he added.

As for BAF’s proposal, Đăng said that the company must pay special attention to issues related to environmental protection and disease prevention and control.

In addition, measures must be taken to strictly control slaughtering, processing and traceability of products, he added.
