HCM City event highlights Taiwan wellness travel offerings

An event in HCM City has fostered connections between Vietnamese businesses and Taiwan tourism while showcasing a new facet of that destination: wellness travel.

As part of the “Day of Wonders” tourism promotion series, the Taiwan Tourism Administration HCM Office, in collaboration with Travellive Media Group, organised “Yen” at the Hilton Saigon on May 20.

With some 44 per cent of adults worldwide experiencing high levels of stress during most of the previous day and 87 per cent of working individuals in Asia reportedly living in a state of prolonged stress, wellness travel has emerged as a leading global tourism trend.

In this context, Taiwan (China) is gaining recognition as a fresh and promising destination for wellness tourism in Asia.

At “Yen”, the director of Taiwan Tourism Administration HCM Office Derek Chou said Taiwan’s unique strengths make it increasingly appealing to travellers seeking in-depth wellness and retreat experiences.

It has over 100 natural hot spring areas with diverse mineral compositions and geographic settings.

Many renowned hot springs such as Beitou are conveniently located near downtown Taipei, allowing travellers easy access.

Taiwan is also known for its innovative integration of eastern and western therapeutic practices.

Numerous wellness resorts and spas offer services led by traditional Chinese medicine doctors who provide personal consultations prior to treatments such as acupressure, massage and physical therapy, an approach not yet widely available elsewhere in the region.

Taiwan is highly rated by the World Health Organisation for its healthcare quality and affordability.

Environmental hygiene and personal safety are also emphasised, making it an ideal destination for solo female travelers and seniors.

With its affordable costs, frequent direct flights from Việt Nam and favorable visa policies, Taiwan is increasingly popular among Vietnamese travelers.

In a single trip visitors can get a variety of experiences ranging from wellness retreats and nature exploration to culinary adventures and shopping.

These advantages support Taiwan’s emergence as a perfect destination for the rising trend of “wellness + work + solo travel”.

Chou said Việt Nam is a key tourism market in Southeast Asia for Taiwan.

In 2024, nearly 490,000 Vietnamese traveled to Taiwan, the third highest among Southeast Asian countries.

“We look forward to further strengthening ties with local businesses to introduce new products, especially themed tours and unique retreats that cater to younger travelers, families and premium segments.”

The event also created collaborative opportunities for representatives from over 50 Vietnamese enterprises and cross-sector partners.
