CBSA launches anti-dumping investigation on steel strapping from VN

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has initiated anti-dumping investigations on steel strapping originating or exported from several countries, including Viêt Nam, according to the Trade Remedies Authority.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has initiated anti-dumping investigations on steel strapping originating or exported from several countries, including Viêt Nam, according to Trade Remedies Authority of Việt Nam.

The investigation is being carried out following a complaint filed by JEM Strapping Systems Inc (JEM).

The company claim that they have suffered material injury in the form of lost market share, price undercutting, price depression, lost sales, reduced net income and profitability, and reduced employment, as a result of an increase in the volume of dumped and subsidised imports.

The period of analysis is from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. The response is due to be received by June 18 and the CBSA will make a preliminary decision by August 11.

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal will also begin a preliminary inquiry to determine whether the imports are harming Canadian producers and will issue a decision by July 11, 2025. 

The Trade Remedies Authority of Việt Nam cited data on Trademap which showed that Việt Nam’s exports of steel strapping to Canada totalled $7.8 million in 2022 and $4.3 million in 2023.

The authority urged Vietnamese exporters to closely watch developments of the investigations and proactively study the procedures and regulations in Canada’s ongoing anti-dumping investigation, as well as provide complete and timely information and fully cooperate with Canadian investigators throughout the process.
