Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has approved the initiative to build a sea encroachment development within the Can Gio coastal tourism urban area in Long Hoa commune and Can Thanh town, Can Gio district.

The initiative has an area of 1,357 hectares with an operational period of 50 years. Invested by Can Gio Tourism Urban Area JSC, the venture has a total investment of over VND64.43 trillion ($2.52 billion).

The Can Gio coastal tourism urban area is envisioned as a blend of seaside tourism, resorts, seminars, conferences, smart urban areas, high-tech services, residential housing, and hotels.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requests the investor and consulting units to take full responsibility for the accuracy of the content and data in the appraisal dossier, while consulting relevant departments to fully implement procedures in compliance with regulations.

At the same time, environmental protection work must be carried out according to the environmental impact assessment report.

If the investor fails to comply with the above regulations, the competent state agency shall handle violations of the economic organisation implementing the project, in accordance with the provisions of law.

In January, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee approved the 1/500 detailed planning for the 2,870-ha Can Gio coastal tourism urban area. The venture is divided into four major zones: A, B, C, and D-E. It is expected to accommodate around 230,000 residents and draw in 8-9 million visitors annually.
