​Vietnam, Cambodia boost ties in high-level meeting in Ho Chi Minh City

To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, and Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate, co-chaired a high-level meeting between the Politburo of the CPV and the Standing Committee of the CPP on Friday in Ho Chi Minh City.

The meeting aimed to further enhance the long-standing friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and sustainable partnership between the two parties, governments, and peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia.

During the discussions, the two top officials briefed each other on their respective parties and countries' current affairs, exchanged views on regional and global developments, and assessed past cooperation achievements.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing collaboration across multiple sectors in the years to come.

They acknowledged the robust development of bilateral ties, particularly in economic cooperation, security, education, and cultural exchange, which have contributed to socio-economic growth and elevated the international standing of both nations.

President Hun Sen praised Vietnam’s rapid socio-economic development and commended Party chief Lam’s leadership in streamlining the administrative system, considering it a valuable lesson for Cambodia.

He also emphasized the importance of educating younger generations on the historical ties between the two countries to preserve the spirit of solidarity and friendship.

Both leaders underscored that unity and mutual support between their parties and nations are fundamental historical principles and crucial strengths for national development and security.

They reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing this relationship for future generations.

Lam reiterated Vietnam’s priority in fostering its relationship with Cambodia, ensuring lasting cooperation.

The two leaders agreed to enhance political ties to guide overall bilateral relations, strengthen high-level exchanges, and effectively implement agreements between their parties and governments.

They also pledged to boost cooperation in defense, security, trade, culture, education, and tourism, aligning with the strengths and potential of both nations.

Additionally, they emphasized closer coordination between Party organizations, national assemblies, government ministries, and local authorities to create a stronger foundation for bilateral relations in the new era, ultimately benefiting both nations’ citizens.

At the meeting, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet endorsed the two Party leaders’ vision for deepening bilateral ties.

They reviewed progress on agreements from the 2023 high-level meeting and identified areas for improvement.

The two prime ministers agreed on key priorities, including enhancing economic connectivity between Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as fostering trilateral cooperation with Laos.
