China's automotive group Geely Auto Group and Việt Nam’s Tasco JSC have begun a campaign to launch the urban SUV Geely Coolray in the Vietnamese market, marking the beginning of their US$168 million joint venture.

Signed in September last year, the agreement outlines plans for an automobile manufacturing and assembly plant in the Tiền Hải Industrial Park in the northern province of Thái Bình. The first phase of the factory is projected to have an annual capacity of 75,000 vehicles, with production set to commence in early 2026.

Geely Việt Nam, meanwhile, is expected to capitalise on Tasco’s extensive distribution network, which currently holds a 13.7 per cent share of Việt Nam’s automobile market with 106 dealerships nationwide. This collaboration aims to maximise market reach and bring Geely’s products closer to Vietnamese consumers.

Set to enter the Vietnamese market, the Geely Coolray has already surpassed one million units sold across 50 countries. It holds the top sales position in Algeria, ranks among the top three in Kuwait and Panama, and has recorded an 80.1 per cent growth in the UAE. These achievements highlight its strong potential in Việt Nam.

Geely Việt Nam plans to organise a nationwide test-drive event for the SUV from February 22 to March 15 at Geely dealerships across the country.

Last year, Geely Auto reported record sales of 2.17 million vehicles, a 32 per cent annual increase. Its international business segment saw a 53 per cent surge in exports, reaching 403,923 units.
