SABECO exudes pride in the homeland
In the context of climate change increasingly negatively affecting the planet, environmental issues are becoming more urgent, and that is why groups like Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation have applied many green initiatives in their activities.
In August, the corporation (SABECO) became a new member of recycling alliance PRO Vietnam, taking another important step in the green transformation process, towards the company’s sustainable development goals.

“Through the support of PRO Vietnam, SABECO wishes to continue to strengthen and promote the implementation of the extended responsibility of the manufacturer, promote the company’s sustainable development goals, and contribute to the country’s green growth goals,” a SABECO representative said.
“Along with that, SABECO will work with other members of the alliance to contribute to the development of regulations and policies related to extended producer responsibility in an effective and suitable manner for the business environment in Vietnam.”
In 2024, PRO Vietnam aims to collect and recycle about 70,000 tonnes of packaging of all kinds; promote communication to change consumer awareness; collect and recycle packaging waste; and support workers working in the collection sector.
Since 2018, SABECO has advocated designing and producing thinner, lighter packaging to save materials. At the same time, it strives to deploy the use of renewable energy sources in the production system, not only saving millions of kWh of electricity each year but also contributing to the country’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
By the end of 2023, SABECO ensured that 11 factories put rooftop solar power into use. The company also increased the use of biomass fuel from plants (rice husk, sawdust, cashew shells, and leaves) instead of fossil fuel boilers to optimise fuel.
Koh Poh Tiong, member of the Board of Directors of SABECO, emphasised that this year the company established a sustainable development and risk management committee to support the board in effectively implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives and goals, ensuring the interests of investors and shareholders.
“With a commitment to investing in business development in conjunction with sustainable development, we strive to create positive changes to enhance the position of Vietnamese brands, promoting positive development for the community,” Tiong said.
SABECO’s sustainable development model focuses on four goals: consumption, conservation, country, and culture. In addition, it is also committed to supporting Vietnam’s overall green goals, continuing to cooperate with local communities across the land to contribute to the country’s socioeconomic development.
A long and worthwhile journey
Vietnamese consumers have long been familiar with SABECO from a small brewery founded by the French. After nearly 150 years of development in the beverage industry, it has become a large-capitalised enterprise with a system spanning 63 provinces and cities across the country, as well as exporting to 38 markets.

To achieve its current position, SABECO has vowed to create positive changes to enhance the position of Vietnamese brands. The unique flavour of Saigon Beer is the crystallisation of the products of the rich southern land and the generous spirit of the Saigon people, becoming an indispensable part of the daily life of Vietnamese people.
In addition to preserving brand value, SABECO’s investment activities have also been constantly expanding in recent times. For example, in 2022-2023 the company invested in increasing the capacity of Saigon Quang Ngai beer factory to 250 million litres annually, continuing to install rooftop solar power systems for 17 affiliated factories.
In parallel, SABECO also implemented a comprehensive warehouse and logistics project with capacity of 30,000 pallets, in order to optimise the preservation and storage of goods and supply, and promptly meet market demand.
Based on the analysis of opportunities and challenges from the market, in 2024, SABECO has been focusing resources on market development activities. This includes building brand, product, and distribution strategies, in parallel with the comprehensive restructuring of the distribution system in a professional direction, effectively supporting control by channel and product segment.
SABECO’s 2024 revenue target and profit is up 13 and 8 per cent, respectively, compared to the level achieved in 2023. The three key areas of commercial optimisation, supply chain efficiency, and ESG continue to be the pillars helping the company achieve its expected goals.
Lester Tan, general director of SABECO, said, “We are committed to providing superior product quality, implementing strong commercial activities, and aiming for sustainable development in communities. These are all core principles in the decision-making process and implementation of corporate actions.”
SABECO boasts 26 breweries and 11 trading subsidiaries, and has a substantial distribution network of retailers nationwide. It proud to offer a brand portfolio that consists of some of the most well-loved beer brands in Vietnam, including Bia Lac Viet, Bia Saigon Chill, Bia 333, Bia Saigon Special, Bia Saigon Export, Bia Saigon Lager, and Bia Saigon Gold. |
