Cambodian rice receives attention in Paris expo
A group of Cambodia’s leading rice exporters who just wrapped up the showcase of their rice products at the Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) Paris 2024, claimed that they received international attention from European and other foreign buyers.
During the expo from October 19 to 23, Cambodian rice has attracted a lot of customers from around the world, especially from Europe, which is Cambodia’s main export market, the Cambodia Rice Federation said on Monday.
Twelve Cambodian rice exporters under the coordination from the Cambodia Rice Federation displayed world’s best quality of Cambodian rice at SIAL in Paris, France, it noted.
SIAL Paris is the global food trade fair held every two years, which specializes in projecting the food processing industry.
“At the SIAL, Paris 2024, the Cambodian Rice Federation pavilion, which showcased Cambodian rice products, has attracted a lot of customers from around the world, especially from Europe,” the press release added.
This surge in international attention comes as Europe remains Cambodia’s primary export market for rice.
In the first three quarters of this year, the Kingdom exported 228,731 tonnes to the EU countries, sharing 51 percent of the total export of 445,913 tonnes of milled rice.
The SIAL Paris 2024, a prestigious global food and beverage exhibition, provided a platform for Cambodian rice producers to showcase their high-quality products to a diverse international audience. The positive reception at the event underscores the growing global demand for Cambodian rice, which is renowned for its distinct flavour, aroma, and nutritional value.
The CRF is optimistic about the potential for increased rice exports to Europe and other markets. The organization is actively working to strengthen partnerships with international buyers and promote Cambodian rice as a premium product.
CRF attended the exhibition for the first time in 2014.
Participating in the exhibition was made possible with the support of the Khmer Enterprise (KE) of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation and USAID Cambodia through Feed the Future Cambodia Harvest III.
The CRF is optimistic about the potential for increased rice exports to Europe and other markets.
It has set a plan to promote Cambodia’s fragrant rice to European countries in a bid to spread word on the quality of milled rice.
It has also planned to lead rice exporters to join exhibitions in the EU countries such as France, Germany, Holland, Belgium and other countries to push direct sales to customers.
