Identify economic barriers, GDCE asks stakeholders
Kun Nhem, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), Thursday called on relevant ministries, institutions, stakeholders and development partners to identify and provide feedback for promoting trade facilitation and investment competitiveness.
Presiding over the ‘Findings of the 4th Time Release Study’ (TRS), Nhem said that the workshop was organised in line with the agreement on trade facilitation and obligations of Cambodia in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) framework.
He said, “The project was established to measure the effectiveness of the implementation of operating procedures in the issuance of licenses, permits, certificates and other trade documents of the relevant ministries and institutions along with the contribution from the private sector on the completion of the products release form.”
The initiative aimed to identify barriers to addressing measures through input and feedback from stakeholders and development partners to develop action plans for the next implementation, the GDCE Director added.
During the meeting, Nhem encouraged the members to provide adequate feedback on the result of the 4th TRS released for 2023 and fully implement the measure set out in the workshop to promote trade facilitation, increase the investment climate and competitiveness which is in line with the government strategic framework to restore and enhance Cambodia’s economic growth.
According to GDCE announcement, the 4th TRS was conducted by collecting data from ministries and institutions to summarise the outcome, using the software of the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
The TRS was supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan Customs Administration, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Union Global Access and Trade Expertise (EU GATE) project, the statement added.
The workshop saw participation of representatives from different ministries, development partners such as JICA, IMF, EU delegation to Cambodia, Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank, Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and Japan Business Association of Cambodia (JBAC) among others.
