Vietnam’s vehicle import from China soars in January-August
Vietnam spent US$582 million importing nearly 19,650 vehicles from China between January and August, an increase of 8,648 units and 47.6 percent in value compared to last year.

A few years ago, Vietnam mainly bought trucks and special-use vehicles from China.
However, the period saw a change as cars accounted for a majority of the Southeast Asian nation’s total vehicle imports from China.
In 2023, 11,002 Chinese vehicles worth $394.2 million were shipped to Vietnam, according to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Vietnam imported 106,630 autos during the January-August period, with last month alone totaling 15,061 completely built-up (CBU) units worth $299 million.
In August, Vietnam mainly imported autos from Thailand (6,380 units), Indonesia (5,770 autos), and China (2,443 vehicles).
The number of vehicles under nine seats represented over 84 percent of the total CBU vehicles imported into Vietnam last month.
An estimated 916 special-use vehicles were shipped to Vietnam, with 833 imported from China in August.
A total of 1,351 trucks were purchased, with 369 originating from China.
The statistics also indicated that Vietnam spent $426 million on auto parts from China, South Korea, Thailand, and Japan last month.
