NBC, VISA to further strengthen financial security
The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and Visa Inc, an American multinational payment card services corporation headquartered in San Franciso, Tuesday agreed to continue cooperation aimed at strengthening the security of financial transactions in line with the rise of technological development.
During a meeting between Chea Serey, Governor of NBC and Visa senior management team led by Arturo Planell, Senior Vice President and Group Country Manager for Regional Southeast Asia of Visa, accompanied by Ivana Tranchini, Visa’s Country Manager for Cambodia in Phnom Penh, both sides underlined the need to continue cooperation to expand financial and digital skills as well as agreed to strengthen transaction security amid the rise of the context of technological development for mutual interests.
The Visa Vice President applauded the advancement of payment systems developed by NBC, especially the Bakong – the next-generation mobile payments in Cambodia – and the ‘Bakong Tourists App’ which was recently launched to facilitate foreign tourists visiting the Kingdom.
Planell also expressed readiness for supporting the new project aimed at attracting international tourists to Cambodia while also promoting payments in ‘Riel’.
The NBC Governor welcomed the support of various payment system initiatives in the country proposed by Visa.
Serey went on to highlight the possibility of using the transaction data for analyzing tourists’ behaviour in terms of spending aimed at building a strong foundation for the development of strategies to provide safety as well as attract more tourists to visit Cambodia.
The NBC Governor further mentioned the scope of using the Bakong mobile application for international tourists which is available in several countries that Cambodia has connected the payment systems including, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and many more countries in the near future.
