PM to preside over Cambodia Rice Forum 2024 today

Prime Minister Hun Manet will preside over the highly anticipated Cambodia Rice Forum 2024 today at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra in the capital.

 

Organised by the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF), Cambodia Rice Forum 2024, under the theme of ‘Transforming the Cambodia Rice Value Chain to be Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable aims to spotlight the Kingdom’s burgeoning rice industry and its potential for global market expansion.

The forum is organized with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI), the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), Australia through Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (ARDB), Khmer Enterprise (KE) and USAID -Feed the Future Cambodia Harvest II.

The primary objectives of the Cambodia Rice Forum 2024 are to showcase Cambodia’s rice sector globally by demonstrating the country’s capabilities in rice production, milling and processing and achieving the prestigious Cambodia Rice Award, read the statement.

The Cambodia Rice Forum 2024 is expected to attract a diverse range of participants, including rice industry stakeholders, government officials, international buyers, and experts from around the world.

The event will feature a series of panel discussions, presentations and networking opportunities to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The Cambodia Rice Forum 2024 offers a unique platform to showcase the country’s achievements and connect with key players in the industry.

It is aimed to give the floor to key insiders to share with participants market trends, rice production techniques and technologies related to rice growing, milling, and processing; to share the government’s visions, policies, and measures for the rice sector with participants; and to gather the inputs and recommendations to improve Cambodia’s rice sector.

Cambodia exported a total of 412,023 tonnes of milled rice in the first eight months of 2024, earning a revenue of $305 million, according to a CRF report.

CRF has set its ambitious goal of exporting a million tons of milled rice by 2025.

After supplying the domestic market, Cambodia has a paddy surplus of 6.5 million tonnes, meaning Cambodia is capable of exporting more rice.
