According to the Việt Nam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC), the net number of new domestic individual investor accounts (the difference between newly opened and closed accounts) reached 329,836 last month, three times higher than that of June.

This marks the highest monthly increase since June 2022, which saw 466,071 new accounts.

The total number of new accounts opened by domestic investors stood at 329,982, also the highest since the date.

Cumulatively, the group opened over 1.08 million new securities accounts in the first seven months, 2.75 times the total for all of last year and 42 per cent of the total for the year earlier.

Domestic investors now hold nearly 8.33 million accounts, with individual investors accounting for 99.8 per cent.

Foreign investors, meanwhile, opened a net 217 new accounts in July, an 18 per cent increase from June.

For the first seven month, the group opened a total of 1,365 new accounts, 51 per cent of the total for all of last year.

By the end of July, the total number of securities accounts held by both domestic and foreign investors exceeded 8.37 million, representing approximately 8.4 per cent of Việt Nam's population.

The dramatic increase in new domestic individual investor accounts last month came amidst significant market fluctuations and a sharp decline in liquidity.
