Vice Chairman of the Bắc Giang Provincial People's Committee Lê Ô Pích said Bắc Giang is actively tapping into the growth potential of agricultural, forestry and fishery products.
The province has supported and guided farmers in cultivating, harvesting and effectively consuming seasonal crops and fruit trees, including rice, vegetables, pomelos and oranges.
Additionally, it has strictly implemented measures to prevent and control diseases in crops and livestock, particularly African swine fever. The province is also enhancing its capacity to forecast and mitigate the impacts of natural disasters on agricultural production.
Various projects and policies supporting agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the region are being effectively implemented, Pích said.
Regarding crop cultivation, Bắc Giang has focused on directing the 2024 summer-autumn crop to achieve its planned goals. It includes promoting intercropping and relay cropping for vegetables and short-term crops to increase the area and yield of agricultural products.
A shift in crop structure towards growing high-value vegetables, medicinal plants and ornamental plants is being promoted and the province aims to transform into concentrated production areas that align with market demands and are linked to production and post-harvest product distribution.
The province is rolling out the 2024 winter crop production, ensuring adherence to the plan and time frame. It is expected to develop a production plan for 22,000 hectares of winter crops, including various vegetables, corn, peanuts, sweet potatoes and potatoes.
Livestock categories, including pigs and chickens, are being developed while promoting the growth of other livestock with development potential, including waterfowl, horses, goats, buffaloes and cattle.
It aims to achieve over 286,000 tonnes of live meat production in 2024.
Bắc Giang also aims to maintain a positive annual growth rate in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors.
The total production value of these sectors in 2024 is expected to exceed VNĐ22.87 trillion (US$900.4 million), with the agricultural and service sectors reaching over VNĐ20 trillion, the forestry and service sectors over VNĐ1.3 trillion, and aquaculture and fisheries over VNĐ1.5 trillion.
Bắc Giang is pushing forward the "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) programme, striving to have at least 85 new OCOP products recognised in 2024.
By the end of the year, the province aims to have a total of at least 350 products rated three stars or higher, and to develop at least two new OCOP products eligible for a five-star rating.
