12 major Chinese firms evince interest in Cambodia
Twelve investment companies from the People’s Republic of China Tuesday have expressed their keenness to invest in potential sectors in Cambodia.
The information was shared by Zhao Yudong, Chairman of Everbright Group Everbright Sunshine Asset Management Co Ltd., during a meeting with Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
Zhao led a delegation of 12 investment companies of the People’s Republic of China.
He appreciated the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) for introducing new investment-friendly policies and measures to encourage investors and ensure a better environment for investment in Cambodia, said a news release from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Zhao told Mr Hun Manet that the visit of the delegation of 12 investment companies in Cambodia is to seek investment opportunities in potential sectors such as clean energy and environment, health, agriculture-industry, finance and other sectors.
In response, Mr Hun Manet expressed his pleasure and welcomed the interest of the 12 companies in seeking investment opportunities in Cambodia.
“Potential sectors that the Chinese delegations interested in are the priority sectors of the Royal Government of Cambodia that are attentive and ready to provide coordination as well as encourage to any investment companies,” Mr Hun Manet said in the news release.
He also highlighted the strategic policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia in establishing a framework for foreign investors includingintroduction of the investment law, legal documents and necessary measures with a package of incentives that create an investment environment.
Mr Hun Manet encouraged the delegation to continue to cooperate and discuss with the relevant ministries and institutions of the Royal Government of Cambodia, especially the Council for the Development of Cambodia to get more information and to find out more about the investment potential in Cambodia.
Last week, Mr Hun Manet met with a Chinese business delegation from Shantou City in China’s Guangdong province and welcomed the interest of Chinese businesspeople in investing in the country.
According to a report of the General Department of Customs and Excise, trade volume between Cambodia and China reached $7.31 billion between January and June this year, marking an 18.8 percent rise from $6.15 billion during the same period last year.
