Hanoi to host dialogue on challenges of social housing and car parks
The city has opened 72 public car parks, but this is well below the planned total of 1,620.
The Hanoi People's Committee will hold a dialogue in November to address the difficulties faced by companies investing and operating in social housing and car parks.
This move comes at a time when most parking projects are still in the investment planning stage and face numerous obstacles to realization, the most significant of which is a lack of available land. The city has opened 72 public parking lots, but this is far short of the planned total of 1,620, according to Nguyen Phi Thuong, director of the Hanoi Department of Transport.

Through the conference, the city's leadership aims to facilitate the exchange of information, provide updates on the implementation of parking and social housing projects, and discuss the difficulties and obstacles encountered in the investment process for social housing, parking and environmental projects in 2024.
The conference is expected to attract 200 delegates, including representatives from local associations, investors, and state-owned enterprises involved in housing, parking, and the environment in Hanoi.
The city will use the input, recommendations, suggestions and practical experience of the companies to realize mechanisms and policies for the development of social housing, car parks and the environment in the city this year and in the years to come.
The Municipal People's Committee has assigned the Department of Planning and Investment to take the lead in coordinating with relevant departments, agencies and units to summarize the difficulties, obstacles and recommendations from associations, enterprises and investors in the city.
