Cambodia, Timor-Leste national banks ink MoU on tech cooperation
The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the Banco Central de Timor-Leste (BCTL), Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly strengthen technical skills for officers on the banking operation, payment networks, digital innovation, supervision procedures, financial environment and human capital.
Chea Serey, Governor of NBC, and Hélder Lopes, Governor of BCTL, presided over the first bilateral meeting of the two national banks which marked the beginning of an initiative to strengthen ties and close cooperation at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Hotel.
Serey and Lopes discussed and exchanged views on the economic situation, monetary policy and the evolving processes of the two country’s banking sectors.
The two governors also shared their respective experiences and strategies to promote the use of the national currency along dollarisation project to the community, which mutually benefits the central banks of both countries.
Based on CDC press release, the first bilateral meeting between the two banks aimed to contribute to the development of the two national banking sectors of both countries.
“The initiative aimed to strengthen cooperation on central bank operations, integrate payment connections, boost digital financial innovations, ensure bank supervision, diversify financial environment, and develop human resources in the field.”
“Officials from the two banks will strengthen technical cooperation through regular exchanges of views, sharing information and data related to economics and finance, as well as experience and knowledge on technical work,” the statement stated.
Additionally, the two governors decided to hold an annual meeting while also pledging to continue strengthening and expanding financial cooperation widely in order to achieve proud results.
