Expand potential fish species to meet market demand, Tina tells officials
Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), asked the Freshwater Aquaculture Research and Development Center to breed and expand potential fish species to meet market demand.
On a visit to the Freshwater Aquaculture Research and Development Center in Peam Chor district, Prey Veng province, and the National Aquaculture Research and Development Institute Samdech Techo Hun Sen in Kandal province, Tina said, “Taking good care of the endangered fish species will not only protect natural fish, but also help nature. Therefore, the study is very important, not to focus only on technology, but also to think more economically.”
According to the MAFF, the minister inspected the hatchery, fish production, feed production and technical raising process.
The minister also suggested the centre for further conservation of endangered fish as well as breeding and expanding to meet the market demand for giant barb and spiny eel.
Along with further conservation and breeding, the minister also stressed the importance of explaining, educating and correcting the behaviour of consumers who still think that farmed fish are of poor quality. He added that today, fish farming uses the right techniques to ensure safety, quality and tasty.
Preventing and cracking down fishing crimes and conservation of natural resources are necessary to ensure the sustainability of natural resources, such as the conservation of dolphins, giant barb and giant catfish, Tina told the officials.
Later in the day, Tina visited the National Aquaculture Research and Development Institute Samdech Techo Hun Sen in Takmao town’s Kandal province.
The Minister urged the officials to study of potential breeds and endangered species for technical reasons. He told them to consider the economic characteristics to make it profitable, efficient and truly sustainable.
On that occasion, Tina also instructed the National Aquaculture Research and Development Institute Samdech Techo Hun Sen to examine the possibility of using solar power boards with low-cost spending to facilitate the process of study, research and use in the institute, especially experiments.
In addition, Tina also instructed the institute to consider additional possibilities for the breeding and expansion of fish aquatic, which can have a good market and high prices.
