Cambodian PM commits to further promoting economic diplomacy

The Royal Government of Cambodia will continue to strengthen and pay high attention to economic diplomacy, affirmed Prime Minister Hun Manet.

“Economic diplomacy is an important task of the Royal Government in the new legislature (of National Assembly),” said the Premier while presiding over the official launching ceremony of the Cambodia Confederation of Investors Association together with a solidary dinner, held at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh on May 9.

Hun Manet underlined that economic diplomacy will boost the good state-to-state and people-to-people ties.

The Prime Minister highlighted the new government’s achievements in the past eight months in terms of investment, pointing out that as of April 2024, Cambodia has approved 128 new investment and production expansion projects with a total capital of over $2.5 billion, generating more than 130,000 jobs. Yesterday, he signed to approve 14 investment projects worth $480 million.

At the same time, Hun Manet reiterated the Royal Government’s determination to lobby more foreign investors to Cambodia.

“Next week, I will travel to the Republic of Korea, and next month to Singapore, where I will meet with many investors and businessmen,” he said.

The premier reaffirmed that the Royal Government will continue ensuring the political and economic stability and peace in the Kingdom, the key factors to attract more investments.

The Royal Government will further the efforts to improve business environment in Cambodia by reducing bureaucracy and providing better services, but it also needs partnership with the private sector, he said.

Besides, the Royal Government will ensure the quality of human resources in response to the demand of both domestic and foreign investments for modern investment and businesses, he added.

Neak Oknha Ly Kun Thai, Chairman of Cambodia Confederation of Investors Association, spoke highly of the collaboration with the government, stressing that it will bring new achievements to the country as well as mutual interest.

CCIA aims to assist foreign investors in Cambodia, while also uniting and integrating their needs and strive to provide them with the necessary support and resources to succeed, he added.
