Cambodia makes $125 mln from rubber export in first 4 months
Cambodia exported 85,428 tons of dry rubber in the first four months of 2024, an increase of 3.7 percent from 82,359 tons in the same period last year, according to a report by the General Directorate of Rubber on Tuesday.
The report said the country made $125 million in revenue from exports of the commodity during the January-April period this year, up 7.4 percent from $116.4 million in the same period last year.
“A ton of dry rubber averagely cost $1,465 during the first four months of 2024, about 51 dollars higher than that of the same period last year,” Khun Kakada, acting director general of the General Directorate of Rubber, said in the report.
The Southeast Asian countries export the commodity mainly to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and China.
According to the report, Cambodia has so far planted rubber trees in a total area of 407,172 hectares, in which the trees on 320,184 hectares, or 78.6 percent, are old enough to be tapped.
