After the talks on Tuesday, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his Chinese counterpart Xi witnessed the singing of the 36 documents, which far exceeded the number of cooperation deals inked on the latter’s two previous visits to the Southeast Asian country.

Of the total agreements, four focus on politics and foreign affairs. They were concluded by the two countries’ Party organizations and Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The security and defense realm has four documents on crime prevention, maritime cooperation, and judicial services.

Twenty-four other agreements detail cooperation at government and ministerial levels, while the four remaining were inked by localities of the two nations.

As the leader of the Chinese Party and state, Xi earlier visited Vietnam in November 2025 and November 2017.

During his visit in 2015, Vietnam and China issued a joint statement with 11 items and signed nine cooperation documents.

The visit in 2017 was Xi’s longest trip to the neighboring country. On the occasion, the Chinese leader and Vietnamese Party chief Trong witnessed the signing of 12 cooperation documents and the handover of seven other agreements between the two countries.

The much higher number of cooperation deals during Xi’s ongoing visit to Vietnam proves the positive development of the two countries’ relations.

President Xi and his spouse Peng Liyuan arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on Tuesday afternoon for a two-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Party General Secretary Trong and his spouse, as well as State President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse.

Many Vietnamese officials and diplomats, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, gathered at the airport to welcome the Chinese leader, his spouse, and their entourage.
