According to Nishida Hideki, General Director of Uniqlo Vietnam, UNIQLO Hoan Kiem is one of the company's most important and special stores. More than just a new store, it is a symbol of connection, convergence and celebration of the cultural beauty of Vietnam and Japan.
In the past, the building housing the UNIQLO store was a handicraft heaven selling delicate mother-of-pearl inlays. As a brand that originated in Japan with exquisite handmade tailoring techniques, UNIQLO - a brand of Japan-based retailer Fast Retailing - and its UNIQLO Hoan Kiem store are restoring the glory of a handicraft corner amidst the vibrant life of Hanoi, offering new perspectives on the capital's lifestyle, he said.
Aiming to create a cultural crossroads between Vietnam and Japan in the heart of the capital, the store's interior is partly inspired by handicrafts such as to he (traditional toy figurines made of glutinous rice powder), Hang Trong paintings, and typical Hanoi delicacies such as Trang Tien ice cream and pho (Vietnamese noodle soup).
UNIQLO hopes to bring Vietnamese culture closer to international friends and promote tourism activities in the capital, Nishida said.
The new store is one of the key locations in UNIQLO's expansion plan to promote the presence of UNIQLO and LifeWear through a wide retail network after only four years of operations in Vietnam.
The opening event marks the 10th UNIQLO store in the capital city of Hanoi, bringing the total number of retail stores to 22 in four provinces and cities in Vietnam, along with the online store UNIQLO.com.
