A sustainable strategy in tune with global norms
Green building developer Phuc Khang Corporation and its CEO Luu Thi Thanh Mau aspire to bring its brand to the global stage with merger and acquisition as well as sustainable development strategies
With the mission to pioneer and promote the creation of a better lifestyle for public health and a sustainable humanistic ecological environment in accordance with global green standards, Phuc Khang Corporation (PKC) continues its focus on perfecting and developing green products in line with international standards.
“Green buildings are considered a vehicle for the company to make good on the right products in line with the world’s trends,” Mau said. “It spreads a spirit of green living to everyone and contributes to the national strategy on green growth towards the country’s overall sustainable development and creating appeal to international partners.”
PKC has implemented many strategies to maintain its internal resources in parallel with global integration to elevate its business. The corporation has held regular training programmes and seminars at home and abroad, while PKC’s key staff have actively participated in professional forums such as CSI 2022 on corporate sustainability; International Built Environment Week 2022; a workshop on realising green building development towards sustainable architecture; the M&A Forum, and BCI Equinox 2022 on net-zero carbon and wellness.
Last year, CEO Mau was honoured as the only Vietnamese representative to win at the Asia-Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards. Hosted by the World Green Building Council in Bali, the international recognition has helped Mau improve her position in the dialogue arena with friends and partners across five continents.
In terms of M&As, according to Mau, investor appetites are changing, shifting the focus to sustainable growth of businesses rather than just profits as before.
“As a result, the corporation has pursued sustainable development goals very early,” she said. “Every year, PKC implements environmental initiatives through activities like greenification, clean-up, environmental protection, sponsoring scientific research on climate change impacts, and promoting green education for employees and the community through green study tours with universities and research institutes.”
In the journey towards sustainable development and extending its international reach, PKC has transitioned from corporate social responsibility to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations to create green buildings, a green community, and a green future. The adoption of ESG is also a way for Mau as well as PKC to share common goals with international partners.
“Our ESG strategy aligns closely with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, and it also helps provide stakeholders with better understanding of how the corporation manages risks and opportunities, thereby advancing the journey of cooperation with PKC to develop sustainably,” the CEO explained.
“We will join forces to develop many green buildings, green communities, and living places for global citizens and global families towards sustainable and responsible development,” she added.
One example is the Diamond Lotus product line, in which PKC teamed up with Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation in 2017 to set up Phuc Khang Mitsubishi Corporation Holding (PKMC).
The following year, PKMC disbursed the first investment of $30 million into the Diamond Lotus Riverside project in District 8 of Ho Chi Minh City. Through PKMG, the two partners jointly researched and developed PKC’s existing land, worth over $500 million and covering 20 hectares in the downtown area of Ho Chi Minh City and 1,000ha in surrounding areas.
Diamond Lotus Riverside stands out as a green symbol in the heart of the city. It was not only built according to LEED standards from the US Green Building Council and the LOTUS standards of the Vietnam Green Building Council, but it also attained the Gold level for both.
