World Instant Noodles Association hosts first food safety meeting in Vietnam
The World Instant Noodles Association (WINA) has held a conference on food safety in Ho Chi Minh City, in which Acecook Vietnam was the only representative from Vietnam.
The conference, held in mid-September, attracted 13 businesses from 11 countries and two research centres, including Nissin Foods Group (Japan), Nongshim (South Korea), Monde Nissin (the Philippines), Baixiang Food (China), Indofood (Indonesia), Nestlé Malaysia (Malaysia), and Acecook Vietnam (Vietnam).

At the conference, participants shared and discussed many important contents related to current food safety risks and response solutions that need to be implemented. This is an extremely urgent issue that greatly affects the development of the entire instant noodle industry, they said.
During the event, members reviewed the progress of implementing a number of the industry's sustainable commitments made at the 10th summit taking place in August 2022, focusing on nutrition and health, sustainable environment, food safety, and solving other social problems.
These are all commitments that contribute to enhancing the value of the industry in the new development era.
Members also shared progress in implementing their goals in the past year and reaffirmed that the entire industry will continue to focus on the four priority areas.
As part of the meeting, after summarising the content, the event discussed plans for upcoming activities towards the 11th WINA Summit in 2024, while calling on members to jointly implement their sustainability commitments of the industry.
WINA was established in 1997 and now boasts 132 member businesses from 23 countries and territories.
Since its establishment, WINA has had many practical activities contributing to promoting the development of the industry. They include providing information related to quality improvement and food safety assurance for instant noodles, and collecting and providing necessary information for member businesses, such as information about instant noodle demand worldwide.
It also carries out communications activities to increase demand for instant noodles; organises summits to exchange ideas among members; and organises meetings about food safety and food assistance.
Acecook Vietnam became a member of WINA in 2011 and was appointed as an executive member. In addition to Acecook Vietnam, Nissin Foods Vietnam and VIFON are also regular members of the association.
Demand in Vietnam is on the rise each year. According to WINA data for 2022, Vietnam's total demand for instant noodles ranks third in the world at about 8.5 billion packages, and ranks first in terms of the average number of packages consumed per capita. On average, each Vietnamese person eats 85 packs of instant noodles a year.
