Hanoi certifies 518 OCOP products

The city has set a goal to have an additional 400 products certified with three or more stars this year.

Hanoi has issued certificates for 518 products that achieve three stars or higher under the city’s One Commune One Product (OCOP) program in 2022.

Among them, Vietnamese Cordyceps militaris from Thien Phuc Herb JSC in Thanh Oai District were awarded five stars. The rest are 271 four-star and 246 three-star OCOP products.

Nineteen makers of the 518-rated products received the OCOP certificate from the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development at the announcement conference on June 16 in the city.

Nguyen Minh Tien, director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center (Agritrade) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, called on the city to help the enterprises address issues such as product packaging, origin, and intellectual property rights.

To further develop the OCOP program in 2023, Hanoi should also focus on exporting OCOP products by improving the application of science and technology in production, aiming for 3-5% of OCOP products to achieve five stars, he added. “The development of OCOP products is closely linked to the development of tourism in traditional craft villages, thereby promoting tourism to attract international visitors,” Tien said.

Ngo Van Ngon, deputy head of the Hanoi New Rural Construction Program Coordination Office, called on sub-municipalities to continue to pay attention and support local units in developing and improving their products. "Entities should increase promotional activities through e-commerce platforms and social media," he said.

At the event, the organizers cut the ribbon for the opening of the exhibition showcasing and promoting OCOP products at the Friendship Cultural Palace. A large number of visitors and delegates were attracted by the many OCOP products with three or more stars on display.

This year, the city has a target of 400 more products with three-star or higher certification, of which 10 are potential candidates for five-star certification by the National Council of OCOP.

The city aims to have at least 2,000 OCOP products assessed and rated by 2025. The capital will prioritize upgrading regional specialties and traditional handicraft villages and continue to support the branding of certified products to achieve this goal.

At present, with nearly 1,700 OCOP-rated products from 426 enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in the capital, Hanoi leads the country in OCOP products.
