Vietnam records unprecedented sales of over 500,000 cars in 2022
Over 500,000 cars were sold in Vietnam in 2022, according to figures unveiled by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), South Korean - Vietnamese joint venture Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam, and Vietnamese carmaker VinFast.
The total market sales as recorded by the three aforementioned units were 509,141 vehicles, the highest ever, but the actual number could be even higher because VinFast failed to fully report its sales in September and October.
In addition, some large firms such as Nissan, Volkswagen, and Subaru and other luxury car brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, and Jaguar Land Rover declined to disclose their numbers.
According to industry insiders, it is understandable that the purchasing power of cars has increased sharply after two years of pent-up demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many manufacturers also offered discounts and ran promotional campaigns to attract customers.
Toyota sold the most cars with 91,115 units, followed by Huyndai with 81,582 vehicles, Kia with 60,672 units, and Mitsubishi with 39,861 units.
Mazda sold 36,052 autos and 30,654 Honda vehicles reached consumers.
Consumers also purchased 28,847 Ford autos and 22,924 VinFast cars.
Regarding classification, Vietnamese people favored sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) in 2022.
Members of the VAMA hit total sales of 120,447 SUVs and CUVs, up 28,000 units from 2021.
