Food safety among weaknesses of Vietnamese enterprises: AEON Vietnam

One of the weaknesses of Vietnamese enterprises is the poor compliance with food hygiene and safety regulations at their factories, said Takao Kazaoka, deputy general director in charge of purchasing at AEON Vietnam.

The three most important factors of products sold at the supermarkets of AEON Vietnam are quality, price, and taste, Kazaoka said on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 2022 Vietnamese Product Exhibition Week on Tuesday.

Products of the same type may appear to have similar quality, but there can be a difference when it comes to the level of compliance with food hygiene and safety rules at the factory, he continued, adding that this is the weakness of many Vietnamese enterprises.

AEON Vietnam has a purchasing and quality assurance department to make sure that products from its suppliers meet all standards.

If the products are not up to the mark, the department will work with the suppliers to help them make necessary improvements.

The quality and supply of Vietnamese products have improved over the past years, the representative of the Japanese retailer stated, adding that the number of suppliers of AEON in the country is also increasing.

AEON Vietnam currently works with about 2,000 suppliers.

Customers' tastes have changed a lot after the COVID-19 pandemic, as evidenced by their search for products that follow the trend of a healthy lifestyle, according to Kazaoka.

That is why the supermarket chain is looking for new products with higher quality.

A number of Vietnamese products are favored by Japanese consumers, namely lychees, bananas, dragon fruits, instant noodles, textiles, footwear, household goods, and handicrafts, Kazaoka added.

Within the framework of the Vietnamese Product Exhibition Week, AEON Vietnam also organizes a program to connect with local businesses and suppliers.

Their products must meet the requirements of AEON, including those related to production processes and labor usage.

With 374 items on display, the Vietnamese Product Exhibition Week will be open at AEON MALL Tan Phu Celadon in Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City until October 2.
