Market pares gains on bank stocks losses

The market eased on Friday morning as profit-taking activities on weighed bank and real estate stocks.

 

The VN-Index on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) declined by 6.27 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 1,335.79 points. The index inched slightly higher in the last session.

The market's breadth was negative but the liquidity improved. During the morning session, investors poured VND13.26 trillion (US$583.1 million) into HoSE, equivalent to a trading volume of 421.8 million shares.

The index was weighed by losses in large-cap stocks, especially bank and real estate stocks. The VN30-Index inched 0.66 per cent lower this morning to 1,444.23 points. Of the VN30 basket, 22 stocks slid while only seven rose and one stayed flat.

In the top five stocks influencing the market's trend, VPBank (VPB) posted the biggest losses, down 2.58 per cent. It was followed by Vietcombank (VCB) and Vinhomes (JSC), both down more than 1 per cent.

Other big banks negatively affecting the market's sentiment were Sacombank (STB), Vietinbank (CTG), Techcombank (TCB) and BIDV (BID).

On Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index fell 1.3 points, or 0.36 per cent, to 356.03 points.

Meanwhile, foreign investors kept net selling on the southern bourse with a value of VND236.47 billion.
