Shares retreat as large-caps falter

Shares retreated on Wednesday morning as a number of large-caps lost ground during the session.

 

On the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the VN-Index lost 0.23 per cent, to 1,338.78 points.

The market's breadth was negative with 128 stocks climbing, while 247 stocks declined.

The liquidity was higher than yesterday as nearly 342 million shares were traded on the bourse, worth over VND10 trillion.

The VN30-Index, which tracks the 30 biggest stocks in market capitalisation on HoSE,  lost 0.24 per cent to 1,440.64 points. Of the VN30 basket, eight stocks rose while 22 slid.

In the VN-30 basket, losers included Sacombank (STB), Vietinbank (CTG), Bank for Investment and Development (BID), VPBank (VPB), MBBank (MBB), Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) and Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB).

The HNX-Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX) was up 0.78 per cent to 349.18 points.
